CIOs – How Aligned Is Your IT Investment With the Business’ Strategy?
CIOs today are in a rather different position to the CIOs of say 10 years ago. The CIO now has a credible opportunity to be a member of the governing table. They not only lead the execution of IT strategy, they have the opportunity to get involved in developing the business strategy.
A CIOs core technical & functional capability enables the CIO to improve various facets of the organisation. CIOs are no longer mere representatives of infrastructure, technology and applications.
Today, a CIO walks into a management gathering to help solve core business problems. And these problems are often beyond the realm of IT. Yes, CIOs make recommendations as to how to handle disparate legacy systems, how to deploy new technologies, how to leverage big data etc. Equally though, good CIOs bring a high level of business acumen to the exec gathering and know that there must be alignment between the technology discussion and the business return aspect.
Ultimately, what the CEO/CFO seek, is a CIO accountable for a technology environment that not only supports the business but accelerates it.
